_____________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
Social representations are phenomena which are connected with the particular way of understanding reality and to communicate thus creating mechanisms that can generate knowledge about the reified and consensual reality. Gilly (2001) a theory of social representations focused on education states that the social representations offers up a new way to explaining the mechanisms by which social factors acting on the educational process. The representations that students have in their learning environment, where the school can interfere in their attitudes towards their own learning process. Thus, the theory of SR is useful to investigate and understand the various representations of a specific social category, the student, and thus seek an understanding of such depictions. For this purpose, this research is based on the Theory of Representations, to analyze and reflect on the school. The research involved three public schools located in Planaltina (DF), with the collaboration of 100 students from the Youth and Adult Education, where 10% of these students participated in the interview. To collect the data were applied two questionnaires, a free recall, the 100 students and a semi-structured interview to 10 students. Our results showed that students in adult education, understand that the school is a place that promotes social interaction and learning, creating new opportunities for knowledge. And the factor that most concern them in relation to school is the lack of teacher education and demotivating. Even for the students quality school is the one who has good teachers, and interested students. Thus, we conclude that the school is validated in the responses of the actors investigated as an important and positive aspects. Finally, the representations of the school portray the practices, discourses, and how it is evaluated and reinforced by the school system and therefore the community.
