Abstract: Fires represent one of the greatest threats to biodiversity loss, in addition to corroborating negative impacts on human health and nature. Among the main procedures for mitigating fires is surveillance. For an efficient supervision it is necessary a good visualization of the area, in order to accelerate the detection of the fire and its first combat. In this context the main objective of this research was to determine the best places for allocating fire observation towers in Cerrado lato sensu of Fazenda Água Limpa (FAL) belonging to the University of Brasília (UnB). FAL is part of the Environmental Protection Area Gama Cabeça de Veado, integrating the ICMBio Biological Reserve, in addition to presenting small farms and urban areas. The data for this research were processed at the Forest Geoprocessing Laboratory of the Department of Forest Engineering at UnB. To develop this research, geoprocessing and spatial modeling techniques were applied. To assess the best points for the allocation of observation towers, aspects of human presence, geography, the fire risk factor and the visibility of the towers were considered. The regions with the highest risk of fire were associated with proximity to roads and urban areas, where closer to these areas the greater the likelihood of the start of combustion by humans. Other areas with a higher risk of fire are where there is vegetation with smaller, higher slopes and slopes oriented towards the geographic North, in order to be more likely to start a natural fire and spread it, increasing its proportion. It was found that the existing tower at FAL has a visibility of 7.478 ha of smoke (at a height of 10m), while the implementation of the new towers would bring 10.932 ha of it, representing a 30% increase in the percentage of soil visibility and about 20% in smoke visibility. The combination of all factors made it possible to create a fire risk map, which was elucidated through a map with the occurrence of fires in the region. Therefore, this research proved to be essential for determining the best allocation of fire observation towers in Cerrado lato sensu areas. The main objective studied was the allocation of the best fire observation towers using the Geographic Information System. Being analyzed a fire risk factor linked to the visibility of the towers, so that the factors are defined by the human presence and geographical aspects of the area. The regions with the highest fire risk were associated with proximity to roads and urban areas, where closer to these areas the greater the likelihood of the start of combustion by humans. Other areas with a higher risk of fire incidence are where there is vegetation with smaller particles, higher slope and slopes oriented towards the geographic North, in order to be more prone to start a natural fire and propagate it, increasing its proportion. The combination of all factors made it possible to create a fire risk map, which was elucidated through a map with the occurrence of fires in the region. Thus, this risk map becomes essential to determine the best allocation for fire observation towers.
