| en |

dc.description.abstract1 | This article uses a complex systems approach for the study of protracted armed conflicts, and for the analysis of peace building attempts in such contexts. It is argued that this vision poses advantages compared to traditional linear approaches, allowing for a wider understanding of armed conflicts, of entries for action and of impacts produced by conflict transformation initiatives. The use of this analytical model is illustrated through a case study: the Colombian armed conflict, which has lasted for nearly five decades in spite of several attempts of peace promotion. This article uses a complex systems approach for the study of protracted armed conflicts, and for the analysis of peace building attempts in such contexts.
