| Resumo: | Este trabalho apresenta a origem e evolução histórica das bibliotecas através do tempo. Analisa as bibliotecas em diferentes períodos históricos, suas características, peculiaridades e contribuições para o desenvolvimento da humanidade. Enfatiza o período antigo destacando as seguintes bibliotecas: Nínive, Pérgamo, Alexandria, Gregas e Romanas, os principais suportes utilizado por estas bibliotecas, como também a forma e maneira de como eram organizadas e a sua importância para o desenvolvimento de civilizações antigas. Na Idade Média temos a transição de poder das bibliotecas, que durante todo esse período ficou sob o domínio e censura da Igreja Católica. A invenção dos tipos móveis de Gutenberg que trouxe a produção em série de livros e de informações para a época de transição entre os séculos XV e XVI,e as influências do movimento renascentista. No século XX e XXI, as transformações e mudanças que as bibliotecas sofreram com a Revolução Industrial e as novas tecnologias introduzidas no seu ambiente. A partir da evolução das bibliotecas a humanidade também recebeu várias contribuições, principalmente em relação à disseminação, acesso e recuperação da informação. _________________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
This paper presents the origin and historical evolution of libraries throughout time. It analyses libraries in different historical periods, their characteristics, peculiarities and contributions to the development of humanity. It emphasizes the ancient period highlighting the following libraries: Ashurbanipal, Pergamum, Alexandria, Greek and Roman, the main support utilized by these libraries, as well as how they were organized and their importance to the ancient civilization's development. In the Middle Ages, there was a transition in the power of libraries, which during the whole period was under the dominance and censorship of the Catholic Church. Gutenberg's invention of the movable types brought about the mass production of books and information for the transition from the 15th to the 16th century, the influence of the Renaissance movements. In the 20th and 21st centuries, the transformation and changes that the libraries went through with the Industrial Revolution and the new technologies introduced in their setting. Based on the evolution of libraries, mankind has also received many contributions, especially regarding the dissemination, access and retrieval of information. |
