__________________________________________________________________________ ABSTRACT
Facing the changes in the land use of native areas of Cerrado with destination to traditional agriculture activities, which are sustained by the use of high technology, agrochemicals and heavy mechanization, this and others mechanisms utilized modify the flow of the ecosystem functions and therefore the provision of ecosystem services. As an alternative to the current model of rural production, the agroforestry systems (SAFs) have been presented as an alternative of sustainable use of the natural resources, based on the biodiversity and functioning of the ecosystems services relationships. Ecosystems Services are considered the direct and indirect benefits gained by men from the functioning of the ecosystems. The objective of the work was to identify the ecosystems services in the Cerrado region of the Central Brazil (Planaltia's- DF administrative region). The ecosystem functions were identified through scientific works developed in the referred SAF, searches in literature, interview with the SAF owner and visits to the property. To mapping the functions were evaluated aspects of the SAF: physical-chemical characteristics of the soil, nitrogen dynamic, quality and estimation of the rate of decomposition of litter, mineralization of nitrogen, organic carbon in the soil, nitrogen retranslocation, biomass and soil carbon stocks, evapotranspiration and production of food and raw material. From the analysis of the interview data, literature and previous experimental studies, it was possible to identify the ecosystem functions of the SAF with the intention of understanding the availability of the ecosystem services. The identified function solar energy conversion to biomass can be associated with two services: food provision and raw material provision. The function of gases promotes the service of carbon kidnapping and storage. The refugee function is responsible for the generation of the habitat service to the species. The regulation function of the water was associated with two services: maintaining the water in the system and regulation of the local climate. It was identified the function of the soil retention, which generates the service of control of the soil erosion. The function of information was related to the service of the use of the ecosystems to traditional and scientific knowledge. It was noted a group of functions sharing the generation of a service in the case of the nitrogen availability, formed by the functions regulation and use of the nutrients by the species, conservation of nutrients in the system and nutrients cycling and in the case of the service of soil fertility, which is generated by the ecosystem functions of nutrients cycling, fertile soil formation and soil retention. The agroforestry systems management can provide high functioning quality of the ecosystems and provide ecosystems services to the human well-being. The studied agroforestry system has the capability of providing all categories of ecosystems services and has potential to the implementation of the paying for environmental services (PSA) policies.
