dc.description.abstract1Introduction: Fatigue is a chronic and subjective symptom being one of the most disabling, reported by 80% of individuals with MS. According to the influence that the symptom has on the functional capacity and on the cognitive alterations of the individuals with MS, it is necessary to differentiate the types of central and peripheral fatigue. The objective of the study was to analyze the influence of motor and cognitive tasks on the perception of fatigue. Methods: Experimental cross-over study with 38 subjects (n = 19 with MS and n = 19 without MS). In the evaluation of the motor task, the minnesota manual dexterity test (TDMM) and cognitive task evaluation were the motor imagery of TDMM. For perception of fatigue were measured heart rate (HR) and the Subjective Effort Perception - Borg Scale (PSE). In addition, chronometry had the objective of verifying the relation of the execution time and imagination of the task. For the comparative analysis, consider a level of significance α = 0.05. For the qualitative data, the discourse analysis was used to identify and characterize the types of fatigue. Results: After analysis of the chronometry, it was observed that the individuals performed execution (p = 0.00) and imagination (p = 0.04) at similar times, suggesting the accomplishment of both tasks. Regarding the perception of fatigue by the Fatigue Severity Scale (p = 0.000000000000305), it was shown to be higher in individuals with MS compared to those without MS. The PSE (p = 0.04) and the HR (p = 0.04) did not present significant differences, so that individuals did not report fatigue only after the execution of the tasks since even in response it is present. Discussion: After the analysis of the results, individuals with MS presented greater difficulty in performing motor imagery related to lower limb function, suggesting the relationship between decreased activities performed and the difficulty of activating specific cortical areas. In addition, when compared to individuals without MS they present greater perception of fatigue in both motor and cognitive tasks, suggesting the influence of increased cortical activity and neural inefficiency in this population. The results suggest that fatigue is not only related to the execution of the movement, but also to tasks related to the preparation and planning. Conclusion: It was possible to verify that the perception of fatigue in MS individuals remains similar after performing motor or cognitive tasks, showing the influence of these two types of tasks on fatigue.pt_BR
